José Sebastiao is the Chief Product and Operating Officer at Utopus Insights, responsible for leading the company’s global business operations including, customer integration, customer support, and ongoing product performance.

Sebastiao is responsible for the deployment and reliability of the digital solutions supporting our global customers’ asset operations. In this role, he also collaborates closely with the Executive Leadership team on resource allocation efforts, and long-term planning and financial projections for corporate growth.

Sebastiao joined Utopus Insights in April 2018 to lead the post-merger management following the company’s acquisition by Vestas, the world’s largest wind turbine manufacturer. He also provided guidance and oversight of product development activities to bring advanced digital solutions to their global customers.

Prior to joining Utopus Insights, Sebastiao served as a Director at PwC in their Capital Projects and Infrastructures practice, where he liaised with utility customers in the development and execution of complex infrastructure projects. He has extensive  experience in large commercial project management for Fortune 500 companies, as well as operations and maintenance of electric facilities and key infrastructure projects.

As a certified project, program and portfolio management professional, Sebastiao has worked with international teams executing challenging projects across North America and Europe. With over 20 years of experience with public and private organizations, his management experience which includes large teams’ oversight, establishing and executing on corporate strategic initiatives and organizational development, supports Utopus Insights’ mission to continuously improve and better serve its customers.

His utility background also includes experience in regulatory process oversight, compliance, as well as state and federal project permitting. Sebastiao holds a Master of Science degree in Civil and Structural Engineering from the National Institute of Applied Science in France and a Master’s in Civil Engineering and Construction Management from the Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago (USA). A dual American and French national, he speaks French, English, Portuguese and Spanish. Sebastiao lives in Vermont with his wife and two children and is passionate about spending time with his kids, traveling and the outdoors.
