Dr. Chandu Visweswariah is the President and Chief Executive Officer of Utopus Insights. Throughout his career, he has developed prescient technical visions and innovations. Prior to co-founding and leading Utopus Insights, Chandu led a worldwide Smarter Energy and Environmental Science team at IBM Research. In 2013, he was named a Fellow, the highest technical honor conferred by IBM. He was one of only 92 IBM Fellows among an employee population that exceeded 400,000. Prior to this position, Chandu was a Distinguished Engineer in Electronic Design Automation in IBM's Systems and Technology Group, where he led a team responsible for correct signal timing in all IBM chips, and drove the invention and deployment of such innovations as statistical timing and automatic circuit tuning.
Chandu joined IBM Research in 1989 after obtaining a PhD in Computer Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University. In 2002, he was a visiting faculty member at the Eindhoven University of Technology in the Netherlands. He won an "Innovator of the Year" award from EDN Magazine in 2006 for his work on statistical timing. He won numerous IBM Corporate Awards, Outstanding Technical Achievement Awards, Outstanding Innovation Awards and Best Paper Awards. He recently won the ACM/IEEE A. Richard Newton Technical Impact Award and was named a Distinguished Alumnus of the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras. Chandu, an IEEE Fellow, was also a Member of the IBM Academy of Technology, IBM Master Inventor, and has over 100 publications and 102 granted patents to his name.
He is a strong believer in economic and environmental forces that will create a clean energy future -- a veritable energy utopia -- with a major role for digitization in integrating an ever-increasing fraction of intermittent renewable energy. Chandu lives in a zero-carbon home, with solar panels and heat pumps, that he built with his wife in Croton-on-Hudson, NY.
